Photonic molecules and spectral engineering
This chapter reviews the fundamental optical properties and applications of
pho-tonic molecules (PMs) - photonic structures formed by electromagnetic
coupling of two or more optical microcavities (photonic atoms). Controllable
interaction between light and matter in photonic atoms can be further modified
and en-hanced by the manipulation of their mutual coupling. Mechanical and
optical tunability of PMs not only adds new functionalities to
microcavity-based optical components but also paves the way for their use as
testbeds for the exploration of novel physical regimes in atomic physics and
quantum optics. Theoretical studies carried on for over a decade yielded novel
PM designs that make possible lowering thresholds of semiconductor microlasers,
producing directional light emission, achieving optically-induced transparency,
and enhancing sensitivity of microcavity-based bio-, stress- and
rotation-sensors. Recent advances in material science and nano-fabrication
techniques make possible the realization of optimally-tuned PMs for cavity
quantum electrodynamic experiments, classical and quantum information

An own clinical observation of vascular malformationΒ of ileac mesentery with torsion aroundΒ the peduncle and strangulation in theΒ right inguinalΒ canal in a 9-year-old girl is presented. The girlΒ was admitted for suspected acute appendicitis.Β Diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic removal ofΒ the fixed formation and its video-assisted removalΒ were carried out considering lack of obviousΒ clinical and laboratory signs of acute appendicitisΒ and pain syndrome preservation. Hernia is a widespread and common disease. In recent years, the effectiveness of surgical treatment has remained at the same level, despite the introduction of various surgical procedures, the development of endovideo surgical approaches, and the use of synthetic materials. The purpose of this study is to create the structure of the information system βAll-Russian hernia registryβ. A design solution has been developed, within the framework of which the categories of users are distinguished and the functionality is delineated for each category. This distinction allows you to conveniently structure information. A card is generated for each patient. It contains links to each hernia of this patient, corresponding to this operation and treatment. Also in the patient's card information is formalized that can have an indirect effect on the occurrence of a hernia. For example, risk factors contain information about bad habits of a sports or sedentary lifestyle. There are data of concomitant diseases and drug intolerances in the patient profile. The questionnaire also indicates the patient's place of residence, which from an economic point of view can affect the patient's work and lifestyle. Continuous-wave cavity-ringdown detection of stimulated Raman gain spectra
Cavity ringdown (CRD) spectroscopy, with its high sensitivity, provides a novel way to perform continuouswave (cw) stimulated Raman gain (SRG) spectroscopy, rather than by conventional optically detected coherent Raman techniques. Tunable cw laser light at βΌ1544 nm is used to probe ringdown decay from a rapidly-swept, high-finesse optical cavity containing a gas-phase sample of interest and itself located inside the cavity of a cw single-longitudinal-mode Nd:YAG ring laser operating at βΌ1064.4 nm. This approach is used to measure cw SRG spectra of the Ξ½1 fundamental rovibrational Raman band of methane gas at βΌ 2916.5 cmβ1. The resulting SRG-CRD resonances have ringdown times longer than in the off-resonance case, in contrast to the usual shorter ringdown times arising from absorption and other loss processes. Previously reported noise-equivalent sensitivities have been substantially improved, by using a second ringdown cavity to facilitate subtraction of infrared-absorption background signals. Moreover, by employing a ringdown cavity in the form of a ring, the SRG-pump and CRD-detected Stokes beams can co-propagate uni-directionally, which significantly reduces Doppler broadening.F.V.
